IQVIA™ Sell Out Service, VITAMINS & SUPPLEMENTS category, CHC3=PROBIOTICS,
Australia Pharmacy, Total Value and Unit, 52 Weeks W/E 3 October 2026.
Microbiome health company Biome Australia Limited (ASX: BIO)
(‘Biome’ or ‘the Company’) is pleased to provide its Appendix 4C and
Activity Report for the quarter ended 30 September 2026 (“Q1 FY27”).
Q1 FY27 was a quarter of significant operational progress for Biome,
with onshore manufacturing under way, heads of agreement signed for
cross-border e-commerce entry into China, and record demand for
Activated Probiotics through pharmacy.
The most recent IQVIA data confirms Biome Daily has extended its lead
as the number one probiotic product in Australian pharmacy, by both
units and dollar value (52 weeks to 3 October 2026). Q1 FY27 was
Biome’s highest quarter of wholesaler sell-through to pharmacy on
record, and IQVIA shows consumer sales of Activated Probiotics
through pharmacy also reached their highest quarter, increasing both
same-store sales and market share nationally and in every region.
Production with SPA has been under way since September, with
Australian-made Activated Probiotics expected to reach pharmacy
shelves from November 2026 (Q2 FY27). Onshore manufacturing is
expected to deliver a structural improvement in cost of goods sold and
reduce working capital requirements over time, while removing
Biome’s exposure to currency movements, international freight
volatility and offshore supply chain disruption.
During the quarter, Biome, through its wholly owned subsidiary Biome
Australia Trading Pty Ltd, entered into a heads of agreement with H&S
Global (announced 27 August 2026) for the exclusive distribution of
Activated Probiotics in mainland China through cross-border e-
commerce, under a three-year initial term. Exclusivity applies for the
first year, with continuation into years two and three subject to
purchase targets agreed between the parties. The heads of agreement
is binding in respect of exclusivity and certain other matters, and
completion is subject to execution of a master distribution agreement.
The Company continues to finalise set-up and launch plans with H&S
Global, and negotiation of the master distribution agreement, on
execution of which volumes, targets and the launch date will be
confirmed, is progressing. Launch remains planned within FY27.
As announced on 9 September 2026, Biome Daily 60 and Biome Daily
Kids 60 packs will launch in Q2 FY27. The new pack sizes respond to
strong customer demand for a larger pack, particularly from parents,
and spread volume across the two highest-selling products in the
range.
Recruitment for the multi-centre BMB18 human clinical trial is under
way in Melbourne and Athens, with 48 participants (20%) recruited to
date.
Biome Australia Founder and Managing Director, Blair Vega Norfolk,
said:
“We back our products with clinical evidence. The Activated Probiotics
range is supported by more than 30 randomised, double-blind,
placebo-controlled trials. It is practitioner-recommended, used every
day by leading health professionals and trusted by their patients. That
is what is driving Biome Daily extending its lead as the number one
probiotic in Australian pharmacy. We have built that position on
evidence and practitioner recommendation, not marketing spend. It
shows our evidence-led strategy is the right one, and it is what
consumers are asking for.
This quarter we started making Activated Probiotics in Australia,
signed with H&S Global for China and continued our BMB18 trial in
Melbourne and Athens. BMB18 is our own strain, and we are putting it
through the same level of clinical testing as the rest of the range.
We have now delivered two consecutive years of net profit. We are
using that to invest in our science, our manufacturing and new
markets. As we move through the final year of Vision 27, we are
planning the next phase of growth.”
Quarterly Financial Update
Biome reported its second consecutive full-year net profit in FY26 and
generated a net operating cash inflow of $100k in Q1 FY27, achieved
during a period of significant operational change. Cash receipts from
customers were $6.5m, up $0.6m (10%) on Q4 FY26 ($5.9m), reflecting
continued sales growth in Australia and in Biome’s international
markets.
The Company closed the quarter with cash of $3.4m and total available
funding of $6.5m, comprising cash and unused NAB facilities. Drawn
debt was unchanged from 30 June 2026 at $1.9m, against total facilities
of $5.0m.
The Company maintained disciplined control of working capital while
running offshore and onshore production in parallel, managing a step-
change in domestic sales volumes and preparing for entry into the
China market. Payments for product manufacturing and operating
costs were $2.9m, 17% lower than pcp ($3.5m).
On a cash basis for the quarter, direct brand marketing investment
totalled $480k. As a function of cash receipts from customers, direct
brand marketing represented approximately 7.4% for Q1 FY27.
Staff costs on a cash basis were $2.6m for the quarter. From Q1 FY27, the
Company reports payments to employees in research and
development roles within staff costs (item 1.2(e) of the Appendix 4C),
rather than within research and development (item 1.2(a)) as in prior
quarters. The Company considers this classification better reflects the
nature-based presentation used in the Company’s statutory financial
statements. Payments for research and development now comprise
external costs only. Q1 FY27 cash outflows attributable to staff costs
include the settlement of annual bonuses and the LTI of the former
CFO, totalling $416k.
Investing activities in the quarter included $179k in payments for
intellectual property, including costs associated with the BMB18 patent
application and clinical trial, and $3k in payments for property, plant
and equipment.
Financing activities in the quarter included $33k in proceeds from the
issue of equity securities, being the sale of shares that transferred to the
Company following the forfeiture of unvested shares under the
Company’s Loan Funded Share Plan, and $106k in payments for lease
liabilities.
Consistent with the approach adopted from Q3 FY26, the Company
reports operational metrics as its primary quarterly indicators, with full
financial results disclosed at the half-year and full-year.
The amount paid to Directors of the Company during the quarter was
$300,211 in fees, salaries, short-term incentive payments and
superannuation payments, as follows:
● Executive Director $237,440
● Non-Executive Directors $62,771
